As I have mentioned before, I have subscribed to both Flickr and Fotolog to experience the difference in their services. Being just a basic member I only have limited allowance as I call it. Maximum allowance is only for premium or Pro members as Flickr calls it or as Fotolog calls it – Gold Camera member, meaning they pay money for this extra services. Being a poor student only allows me to have free stuffs, thus sacrificing the privilege of having advanced usage of these websites. However, by just being a basic member I found out that there are pros and cons on both side. These are my discoveries:
FLICKR
As a basic member, this is what I get:
- Maximum limit of 100MB pictures per month.
- Edit title, tags and descriptions any time any day you want.
- Comment/ Feedback is unlimited.
- Geotagging – people can look for geographically mapped pictures.
- Blogging.
- Upload, organize, share, maps, make stuff, keep in touch – the usual feature of flickr.
- Photos of good quality and of artistic nature. I have noticed that there are good number of professional photographers that contributes pictures.
- Members are from all around the world.
- Tour to give insights of Flickr – like how it works and what I get
FOTOLOG
With Fotolog, as a basic member, this is what I get:
- Only able to upload 1 picture a day.
- Edit title, tags and descriptions within 10 minutes of upload.
- Guestbook posting only 20 per photo – works as comments or feedback.
- Geotagging – works the same as flickr
- Blogging – works the same as flickr but can’t understand most of them as they are posted in spanish, portuguese etc.
- When showing prized pictures, it is never the pictures they have taken for that certain category but their ID pictures.
- Upload, share, maps – the basic features.
- Photos of all quality, casual and artistic. I have noticed that the majority pictures posted are of everyday lives.
- Mostly dominate by South American members.
